100 Days Project

wilma: God lives here on the Eastern Bay of Plenty

We call it The Place where God lives, of course it is'nt, It's simply where the Motu River flows down from high in the mountains, through the gorges and into a small area of the Bay of Plenty.

,ve come to the conclusion--- that if God were to chose one single place to live it would be here. Over my 100 days I'm going to take you, with my trusty little pink camera and show you our beautiful piece of New Zealand.

Day 25:

the whitebaiters

After the 15th august the whitebait start to run. On the Motu they can be as later as October but they'll be there. Ive told you about the old days when they were there in their tons but today a grand day will see perhaps a good basin full. I must tell this story::: Some people who we know, rather boastful always on the oneup manship turned up to show up their enormous catch. After the traditional cup of tea and how are yous? we head for their truck to view what is to the catch of all catches and one we'll never forget ( still no mention of sharing any with us)
AS WE APPROACHED THEIR TRUCK WE SAW IT, ONE GINGER TAIL WAVING UP AND OVER THE RIM OF THEIR BUCKET OF WHITEBAIT. THERE WAS SCREAMING AND ABUSE AS OUR CAT CHARLIE HEAVED HIS FAT BODY OUT OF THE BUCKET COVERED IN SMALL SILVER BODIES HANGING FROM HIS FACE AND EARS.
We got over the laughter but the whitebaiters have never been here to our house again.
