With one leg removed Nadia had to learn to walk with a prosthetic limb. However, the other leg was still growing and so she found that both legs were never quiet the same length. Her balance was out of whack and so she had difficulty walking, running and playing with other children. She found the only place she felt comfortable was in the water. And so began her lifelong love of swimming. And the idea of becoming a mermaid was born.
