Karin: Urban Underdogs

My life is busy - so busy in fact that I rarely have time to notice and appreciate the beautiful little things in our environment that we so often overlook. One afternoon, I happened to notice the most beautiful little plants (which some people call weeds) thriving in little cracks in concrete walls, climbing up trees & fences, growing in little crevices in the pavement, and quietly going about their business of growing. They turn up uninvited, grow back when they are pulled out, weather the elements, and just get on with getting on, all the while going unnoticed. I admire their hardiness and resilience, and as a tribute to them I will photograph 100 of my favourite NZ “Urban Underdogs” and attach quotes that relate to strength and resilience. I think we can learn a lot from them!
